Ericsson about to roll out 5G

Can you sit in Paris and drive a car in Stockholm?
Yes, you can! At least if you have a 5G connection from Ericsson and the drivers are famous Paris Saint-Germain football players Lucas and Nkunku.
When Ericsson arranged its innovation day in Paris in October one of the most startling elements was when Lucas and Nkunku sat in a ”car” with huge screens in front of it, as they drove a real car on a racing track in Stockholm.
With this exercise, Ericsson wanted to show some of the possibilities with 5G.
– The spectators were very impressed, says Matthias Rodermann, Mobile Broadband Engagement Manager at Ericsson.
– Once a year we arrange this day. We invite customers, journalists, government, industry representatives and others to get them up to speed on Ericsson´s latest solutions and innovations.

This year one of the main topics was 5G. Ericsson had invited suppliers like 3M, Sonepar and MAFI.
– We host workshops and demonstrations, Mr Rodermann continues. And we also showed a complete technical ”ecosystem” around 5G, which included a 5G site, with a 5G antenna mounted on one of MAFI´s freestanding rooftop solutions.

One of the purposes of the site was to show that it could be built from scratch in half a day.
– The speed in which the site was built was an eyeopener for many visitors, says Mr Rodermann. MAFI´s solutions are proved to be simple, but very efficient and trustworthy, and fast to install.

He is happy to tell that the positive feedback on the innovation day was overwhelming.
– We got 10 out of 10 in customer satisfaction, he says with a big smile. That´s never happened before. And the day is generating a lot of interest from customers, new leads and we´re providing sample equipment to many of our partners.

Ericsson has started to test 5G in limited areas in South Korea and some other countries.
– Next year we will begin to build 5G clusters, which contains maybe 30-50 sites in smaller networks, he continues. And from there we expect a more decisive roll-out during 2020 all around the world.

The market’s shortest lead times from idea to advanced prototype to shipping of ready-made brackets make MAFI unique.

The market’s shortest lead times from idea to advanced prototype to shipping of ready-made brackets make MAFI unique.

Within a new business area, MAFI Integrated Solutions, MAFI creates custom-made brackets that fully meet customer needs.

Since a month, MAFI operates within two business areas:
MAFI Standard Solutions (MSS) and MAFI Integrated Solutions (MSS).
“We are now creating a greater focus on both our standard and speciality products,” says Pierre Bengtsson, MAFI´s CEO. ”We are also increasing resources in both business areas.”For almost 25 years, MAFI has essentially delivered standard solutions to the global telecom industry. In recent years, the company has made significant investments in technology and expertise, which enables it to supply the whole chain from ideas and prototypes to finished speciality products according to customer needs and wishes.
“MSS works with our catalogue of standard products used to mount antennas and other telecom equipment in regular rollouts and when sites are upgraded,” Pierre continues.

“Within MIS, we develop and manufacture other company´s products, all in-house. It may be a bracket for a special RRU, a radio, a camera or another device. It is, of course, essential that this bracket also has the same performance and quality as the equipment in which companies often invest large sums and a lot of time.”
But for most companies in the telecom industry, the bracket is something that needs be solved fast at the end of the project.”Here we can help their R&D department. This small detail for them in a massive project is the most important thing in the world for us! This is what we focus on, with many years of experience as well as comprehensive knowledge and competence.”

Lately, MAFI has formed a development method that optimises the brackets to make them stronger and with a reduced amount of steel in a cost-efficient production process.
“We provide solutions that meet all the demands of the customer,” Pierre continues. ”Already when developing the product, we solve strength problems. We know how to make the product most efficiently, and we can leave an attractive offer at an early stage.”

MAFI has completed several projects for large telecom companies according to the MIS concept.
“An appreciated factor is our very short lead times,” said Pierre. They are possible, among other things, thanks to our CNC machine with which our engineers can manufacture advanced prototypes.
Since there is a rapid and growing demand within this business area, MAFI will focus on developing MIS; soon a project manager will be employed.
“Of course, we have also guarantee that the high level of fast and secure logistics that our customers are used to is ensured in the future,” concludes Pierre.
